Shoebill (Balaeniceps rex) crouch for take off – Uganda

We were not aware that it was getting into position to fly.  We were taken in small boats in shallow water through papyrus and over 100 metres away our first sighting of the Shoebill.  We stopped and watched, after some time the bird started to come closer and close to us.  Such an exciting experience being in the presence of this very rare and special bird.
