Pipit Golden (Tmetothylacus tenellus) male, vagrant – KZN South Africa

The Golden Pipit is an endemic of North East Africa, the Birds of Africa Field Guide report fewer than 10 records in South Africa.   We were lucky to be at another birding site in KZN so took the opportunity to see if we could spot this rare vagrant that had been reported and seen in the area for the past 20 days.  Over 100 birders have journeyed 280km north of Durban on the chance of seeing this rare bird.  After 30 minutes on site we found it and it posed on thorn trees and in the grass.  It was a very exciting viewing.
