Easter Island of the local name of Rapa Nui and the Spanish name of Isla de Pacua is located on the globe with the red marker.  We flew from Tahiti, a five hour flight East, to this special island that has an amazing history with its stone statues (Moai) and the Sooty Tern.  All Easter Island indigenous birds are extinct; they were probably eaten!

The island has a close association with the migrating sea birds but since not all marine birds were present while we were  birding I have added some photos taken at other sites that are common to the region.  Read on….
