Hawk-Cuckoo Common (Hierococcyx varius) immature – India

It is justifiably called the ‘Brainfever Bird’.  During the breeding season the male produces loud, repetitive three note calls, the second note is longer and higher pitched. The notes rise to a crescendo before ending abruptly and then are repeat after a few minutes; the calling can go on through the day.  They are often heard in urban areas and you know you are in India.
