Finch African Crimson-winged (Rhodopechys alienus) female – Morocco
Full SizeThe Eurasian Crimson-winged Finch (Rhodopechys sanguineus) is now called African Crimson-winged Finch (Rhodopechys alienus) (MP)
We were at the top of a valley looking down at at a flock of various birds at about 80+ metres. Identification and photography was extremely challenging of these small birds. Most pictures taken are for the record but unfortunately are not diagnostic.
Oukaimeden was a strange place. In the 1950s they created a ski resort but due to lack of snow the area is now a scrapyard of rusting ski lifts in the Atlas Mountains. We made this special trip just to see the relatively rare Eurasian Crimson-winged Finch but only had decent glimpses through spotting scopes.
