Junglefowl Red (Gallus gallus) male – Polynesia

The Junglefowl is the primary progenitor of the domestic chicken, Red Junglefowls are seen in the Indian foothills of the Himalays and were first domesticated at least 5,000 years ago in India.  The initial inhabitants to Polynesia would have introduced them. This specimen may be feral and hybridised with the Grey Junglefowl,; it was spotted wandering near dense jungle at elevation along with immature birds.
