Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) male in flight – Cape West Cape, South Africa
Full SizeA challenging photo taken at some 80 metres. Shows all the diagnostic elements not often seen on a static bird. It moves very fast when taking off so picture taken with my finger on the button for quite a while. Taken at 4000th second with Nikos 520mm F2.8 lens with 1.7 converter and at 800 ISO!
This Whinchat is a vagrant to South Arica with only 3 recorded sightings in the past 20 years (Ref. SASOL Birds).
