Whinchat (Saxicola rubetra) male in flight – Cape West Cape, South Africa
Full SizeA challenging photo taken at some 80 metres. A view from the rear that if only seen is unlikely to be easily identified. It moves very fast when taking off so picture taken with my finger on the button for quite a while. Taken at 4000th second with Nikos 520mm F2.8 lens with 1.7 converter and at 800 ISO!
This Whinchat is a vagrant to South Arica with only 3 recorded sightings in the past 20 years (Ref. SASOL Birds).
