Ibis Northern Bald (Geronticus eremita) head view, near endemic – Morocco

The Ibis head feathers (or fascinator) are similar to the Secretarybird (Sagittarius serpentarius), I wonder what role its feathers play?

This was the target bird for our tour of Morocco.  It is highly endangered with only 500 breeding pairs.  After scrambling up a hill and lurking behind small bushes I was able to take excellent photos in perfect light.    See the Southern Bald Ibis I photographed in Lesotho there are similarities but without the ‘fascinator’.
